1.1. LOCAL ACTIVITIES OF PUBLIC INTEREST- motto: Help those around you!
- Give a smile: since 2000 around the Christmas holidays we have organized shows every year and donated specific boxes of sweets and gifts for approximately one hundred and fifty disadvantaged children in the County (funding from sponsorships approximately 1,500 € annually)
- Rotary Merit Scholarship: an annually held action feeing excellent high school students from 9th to 12th grades in Saint George (funding from sponsorships approximately 2,500 € annually)
- taking part with funds and direct actions in the redevelopment and the furnishing of the children's section of the County Hospital in Saint George with furniture and ten televisions (funding from sponsorships approximately 2,500 €)
- taking part with funds in the rehabilitation and actuation of the mofettes of the Cardiology Hospital in Covasna (Direct contribution of funds from the members approximately 10,000 €)
- taking part with funds in the construction of playgrounds for children in two parks in Saint George (own funds approximately 1,000 € )
- distribution of approximately 500 pairs of shoes to the victims of Sita Buzaului and to the villages belonging to it; the project was carried out after the floods in the summer of 2005. Rotary Club Saint George received new quality shoes from the Rotary Foundation - District 2241 and from the Rotary clubs in Germany to help the victims.
- Rotary Club Saint George supports, together with other NGOs, the Municipal Theater of Saint George by subscriptions from patrons and by paying the annual costs of the property expenses of a young theater director (approximately 1,800 € annually)
- The sponsorship of supplying the "Batthyány" GTP computer room in Saint George was achieved in collaboration with the "Vay Ádám" Foundation from Nyíregyháza and the “Amőba” Foundation.
- The Cyclist Relay is a project of national scale initiated by the Rotary Club Timisoara and crosses the country till it’s final destination Mangalia. This project aims to highlight the need to promote the culture of cycling, to encourage local governments to build tracks for the cyclists and to complete the existing ones and to implement the image of road cyclist with the same rights and obligations as other drivers have. Another important component is to increase the education level of citizens about the participation of cyclists in traffic, something that will have positive repercussions in reducing the number of accidents involving cyclists. To these are added the urban and economic advantages. Besides the ecological aspect highlighted by the relay, events organized in every city on the route are an opportunity to promote the image of Rotary clubs, to make known our goal, to contribute to community progress, as well as strengthening the ties between Rotarian clubs in the neighbouring towns.
- along with the "Vay Ádám" Foundation from Nyíregyháza we sponsored the rehabilitation of the Elizabeth park and the placement of Rákóczy II's bust in the park
- Supporting a child with disabled hands by purchasing a laptop that would ease the possibilities of communication (approximately 650 €)
- The sponsorship of Bejan Carmen who studies in the Arts High School in Saint George (approximately 500 €)
1.2. INTERNAL ACTIONS IN THE CLUB
- Weekly programs of conference presentations and information on various topics, with personalities from business, culture, politics, both from Romania and abroad within the club - annual organization of a Micro New Year’s Eve with family participation during the Christmas holidays -The organization of trips - the Charter festivity of the Rotary Club Targu Secuiesc, moment of organizational maturity; the Charter festivity meant a ceremony held in a strict realization with respect to all stages and internal norms, which granted official recognition for the constitution by Rotary International.
1.3. PROFESSIONAL ACTIONS - "Let's know the professions" (visit by the members of Rotary the workplaces of the Rotarians) - "This is my profession" (short conferences in the club about the specifics of our jobs.
1.2. INTERNATIONAL ACTIONS
- At the initiative of Rotary District Romania, our club members have collected and donated over 300 books to the Rotary Club Chisinau, to be distributed in the libraries of the Republic of Moldova.
- Within an international action collecting funds, the Rotary Club Saint George donated a sum of 300 € through the Rotary Club of Sofia for the surgery of our Rotarian colleague Dimitar Anghelov.
- Within the "YEP" Youth Exchange Program in 2008 a group of four young people from England came to visit the Rotary Club Saint George between 12-18 of May, 2008. The objectives of the program "YEP" organized under the patronage of Rotary International is to transmit and develop friendly relations among Rotary Clubs through reciprocal exchange of visits between young people from all countries. Our club was visited by Mike Cannon, Adrian Oask, Onagh McArthy, Marco Malton, England, and we provided food, accommodation and program of visits in the town of Saint George, Lake St. Anne, the resort Bálványos, the Peles Castle and Sinaia , the Bran Castle, Poiana Brasov and the town of Targu Secuiesc. During their stay in Saint George young people were in direct and permanent contact with the members of the Rotary Club, visited the offices and places where our Rotarian colleagues operate, directly getting acquainted with the Romanian realities.
- In collaboration with Rotary Clubs in Europe we have achieved 6 MATCHING GRANT type programs to help the local community:
1. equipping the County Hospital in Saint George with industrial washing machines worth 30,000 € in collaboration with the Rotary Club of Rijssen from Netherlands.
2. constructing and equipping a unit pasteurizing milk in the town of Covasna worth 15,000 € in collaboration with the Elburg Foundation and Rotary Club Elburg 3. It is in process to realize and complete the space for locating equipment producing bakery products in the Agricultural High School in Saint George, in collaboration with a Rotary Club in Germany, worth approximately 5,000 €. 4. In collaboration with the Rotary Club of Passau and the parish of Calnic, under the aegis of Rotary International, we finish furnishing the Youth Center from Calnic and purchase sports equipment, bicycles, furniture, worth 22,000 dollars, for local disadvantaged children.
5. We completed, along with a Rotary Club in Germany, a program purchasing specific medical aparatus, equipping in the latest European standard the Cancer Diagnostic Center for Children of the County Hospital in Saint George, equipment worth approximately 35,000 €.
6. At the initiative and request of the Canteen of the Disadvantaged in Saint George, we developed together with the Rotary Club of Spa, Belgium, a program purchasing modern kitchen equipment with an increased productivity, managing in the end to increase the capacity of the canteen to prepare food and implicitly to serve a larger number of needy people, the value of the equipment following to be purchased for the canteen is 15,000 €.
